" He didn't give me flowers or candy. He gave me the moon and the stars. Infinity."
"Maybe that's how it was with all first loves. They own a little piece of your heart, always."
"Then it he was gone. Just for that moment, the thought that I might never see him again...it felt worse than death."
"He was part of my DNA. I had brown hair and freckles, and I would always have Conrad in my heart."
"Don't marry him. Don't be with him. Be with me."
We left off once again with all these unanswered questions. What happened? Whom did Belly Choose? Conrad? Or Jeremiah? Well I have the answers so lets get started on this shall we?
"We'll Always Have Summer" started off two years after the end of "It's Not Summer Without You." And I'm happy to announce that Belly chose Jeremiah. For two years Jeremiah and Belly were together. You think that the drama would hold off until like the 5th chapter, I really don't know why I think these things because it never actually happens and I'm always surprised when I get hit with drama right off the bat but what can you do right? Life of a reader.
You would think that it was all rainbows and sunshine with Belly being with Jeremiah and it kinda was like that all the time until they would get into fights and then it was like any other couple. So basically the story starts with Belly getting ready to go to a party at Jeremiah's frat house and when they get there all is well until Belly has to go use the bathroom. She's getting ready to walk out when she over hears a loud conversation going on right outside the bathroom. Some frat floosy was talking about how her and Jeremiah had sex in Cabo on spring break and how his poor innocent girlfriend had no idea, and how lucky she was to have Jeremiah as a boyfriend. Ugh fuckin empty headed booze floozie!
I hate girls that will pretend to be friends to your face and then want your boyfriend and talk shit about you behind your back! fake ass future Avon seller!! UGH!! Anyway, Belly opens the door to the bathroom and the look on this bitches face when she comes face to face with Belly. I was really hoping that Belly would have popped her in the mouth but secretly i know that, that is my rage talking and what I would have done, and that little witch would have deserved it, just sayin!! But instead Belly races down stairs and drama ensues!
Not popping one of them in the face I can understand, but not popping Jeremiah in the face? Come on! He pulled a "Ross Gellar" -"We were on a break!" we all know that Rachel and Ross were still together, just like we know that Belly and Jeremiah were still together and yet this empty headed baboon porked another girl! The fuckin AUDACITY of these FICTIONAL MEN!! Anyway then there comes the mopping around in the door room trying to figure out whether Belly should dump Jeremiah or not. Surprise, surprise she didn't dump him, in fact she did the exact opposite. She freakin agreed to marry him!!
In what universe did I step into, where the girl gets cheated on and then gets engaged to the guy?! I really wanted to close the book there but I knew that the drama was just beginning.
Susannah has been gone for 2 years, so the Conklin's and the Fisher's are going to Cousins beach to a woman's shelter on the Susannah's anniversary to bless her flower garden that the women's shelter built for her in memory. That is when Jeremiah and Belly decide to let their big news out.
And what greets their big news? Not a damn thing, not even crickets. It's like the whole universe went quite. Laurel and Adam are against it from the get go ok? And Conrad? Conrad just walks away without saying a damn word.
I won't lie i stopped being "Team Jeremiah" when he cheated on Belly but I had no idea how fast I'd actually slip back into wanting Belly to end up with Conrad again.
The entire time that Belly and Taylor are planning this wedding, Laurel is actively against it to the point, she tells Belly that she won't be coming to the wedding if Belly chose to follow through with it, So, Belly up and left and moved out to the beach house, with *Cough, cough* Conrad, while Jeremiah was working with his dad for the summer. Jeremiah did not help Belly put their wedding together at all and it drove Belly to the brink. Honestly, I sided with Laurel on this whole thing, and she didn't even have the full picture!! I'm sorry but you don't go off and get engaged to someone who cheated on you! Have some dignity, some self preservation! Jesus Christ Bro!
So it's the night before the wedding and Conrad has decided to be the DD for the bachelor and his party. So they go to a bar and Jeremiah is off in the bathroom puking his guts out, when Jeremiah's friends start talking about Jeremiah cheating on Belly in Cabo. I thought Conrad was going to beat the ever loving living hell out of Jeremiah and his friends, but he does one better, leave em stranded at the bar.
So when the guys get home, they are drunk and wake up the whole house. And then Belly goes in search of Conrad since the guys tell her that he ditched them at the bar. She starts walking the beach when she sees him sitting in the lifeguard tower.
Here's where we hit major drama scene #494. Conrad tells Belly for the millionth time how he really feels about her, even tells her that he loves her, (He's never said that to her), and she's just a complete ice queen. She tells him that he's just jealous that she's marrying his brother tomorrow and that he basically cannot handle him not being chosen, and she tells him that all of this is just a joke to him.
Part of me was like proud of her, but at the same time, the fuck were you thinking Belly I mean really? This is the boy that you have loved all your life and he finally tells you that he loves you and you go ice princess on him? You're not even giving this man a chance to prove that he's changed, you are just judging him for past mistakes and that is like the worst thing ever.
Major drama scene #495: Belly tells Jeremiah what Conrad said. At least she's being honest but girl, you just imploded you're entire world right there and you didn't even think about it for 3 seconds!
I'll be completely honest I am heavily disappointed with how this book ended. I love Jenny Han, but the ending to this trilogy felt rushed and I feel like she skimped out on what could have been a rather divine ending for all these characters. I really want to know more about the wedding that would eventually take place, and Belly's time abroad, and the letters that Conrad wrote her, hardly reek of romance, more as a boy who's completely regretting his decision to write letters in the first place. The ending just felt rushed, and I feel that she could have done so much more with the ending.
No, I'm not going to tell you what happened. Read the books to find out ;) What? Oh you thought because I share almost everything that I would tell you the ending on this? Not a chance in hell.
Over-all I gave this book three stars, it was weaker then the first too, and the ending desperately needs fixed but, eh it won't change.
Over all rate for this trilogy is 4 1/2 stars and Cry rate sits at a two.
